If you’re seeing tiny flies buzzing around your kitchen or large house flies banging against your windows, your first instinct might be to call a pest control company. But after 30 years in the business, I’m going to tell you something most of the big franchises won’t: You probably don’t need to pay me to fix this.
The Fruit Fly “Grocery Store” Trap
Most fruit fly outbreaks in Canyon Lake or Spring Branch homes don’t start in your drains. They start at the grocery store. Those bananas, oranges, and lemons you bought were likely carrying eggs from the “cool section” of the store. Once they hit your warm kitchen counter, they hatch.
The Pro Fix: You don’t need a chemical spray. You need sanitation.
Toss the overripe fruit.
Deep-clean your trash cans.
Check for that “forgotten potato” in the back of the pantry. Once the food source is gone, the flies go with it.
Why “Spraying the Air” is a Waste of Money
I see people buy cans of fogger or demand that I “spray the room” for flies. In my experience, standard sprays don’t work on flies. Unless you’re using specific aerosol baits—which most companies don’t even carry on the truck—you’re just pumping chemicals into your house for no reason.
