Experience matters when balancing your home’s protection with the local Hill Country ecosystem. Serving Canyon Lake since 1996, we provide a 30-year local reputation backed by my 12 years of professional, technical application. We understand the beneficial role local wildlife plays, but we also know how to build a consistent, high-potency barrier that keeps scorpions, ants, and spiders from crossing the line into your home.

The Hill Country’s Natural Cleanup Crew

Living around Canyon Lake and Spring Branch, we share our yards with a lot of wildlife. While some critters are a nuisance, others are actually working “overtime” to keep your bug population down. Here’s the breakdown of the local animals you want to see on your perimeter.

  • Mexican Free-Tailed Bats: These are the heavy hitters of the night. A single bat can eat up to 1,000 mosquitoes and moths an hour. If you have bats in the area, they are doing the “aerial spray” for you every evening.

  • Texas Spiny Lizards & Geckos: We see these guys on every job. They aren’t just porch decorations; they consume massive amounts of ants, beetles, and termites. If you see a Mediterranean House Gecko near your porch light, leave him be—he’s eating the bugs attracted to the light before they can get inside.

  • Roadrunners (The Scorpion Hunters): These are one of the few predators that will actively hunt and eat Bark Scorpions. They are incredibly fast and help keep the ground-level pest population in check.

  • Texas Toads & Frogs: Especially after a Hill Country rain, these guys come out to feast on slugs and snails that wreck your garden. They also snap up low-flying mosquitoes and beetles.

  • Opossums: Don’t let the “hiss” fool you. Opossums are incredibly clean and are basically natural vacuum cleaners. They eat thousands of ticks every season, along with cockroaches and snails. They are also naturally resistant to snake venom!

  • Skunks: While you don’t want to get sprayed, skunks are excellent at digging up grubs and beetle larvae from your lawn. They’ve also been known to raid ground hornet nests, eating the larvae and destroying the colony.

  • Beneficial Insects (Ants & Spiders): While we treat for Fire Ants, some native ant species actually compete with and prey on termite swarms. Similarly, that “scary” wolf spider in your garden is likely eating the grasshoppers and crickets that want to get into your house.
